How the National Peach Council is Working for the Industry in 2017

The mission and activities of the National Peach Council (NPC) have benefitted the industry since 1946 when it was formed by peach growers across the country to serve as a united voice for them.  While it’s priorities have evolved over the years, it continues to focus on the needs and issues impacting the industry.

In 2017, the council is working for you in the following ways:

    • Sponsoring Trends & Opportunities for the U.S. Peach Market, Nielsen Fresh Study.
    • Monitoring legislation and activities that impact you as an agricultural business and employer.
    • Representing you at USDA meetings with
      • Agricultural Marketing Service,
      • Food and Nutrition Service,
      • Agricultural Research Service,
      • Rick Management Agency, and
      • National Agricultural Statistical Service.
  • Providing regular communications with congressional offices on the issues impacting the industry and participating in congressional letters with other industry trade organizations regarding tax extenders, ag labor reform, crop insurance, and food safety.
  • Supporting industry research initiatives like RosBREED Research Project; Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Collaborative Research Project; and others.
  • Assisting various member groups in securing USDA Specialty Crop Block Grants for peaches.

Weekly, there are communications or discussions with allied industry agricultural groups discussing the importance of collaborative working on issues like ag labor progress, tax extenders, crop insurance, NAFTA Renegotiations, and more.  But it doesn’t end with those topics.  Talks have already begun on the 2018 Farm Bill and the push to have over-reaching regulations repealed.  It is a busy time for the NPC and the industry.

Additionally, the 2017 Peach Statistical Yearbook will be published in June for all Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze members, all other members will have access to the yearbook in September.  The National Peach Council has been publishing the yearbook for nearly 20 years.  The Peach Statistical Yearbook presents a complete picture of world peach production and trade.  Its greatest value is that it brings together a wealth of peach statistics and information, and then places it at the fingertips of yearbook readers for easy access.  The information in the yearbook is presented in both tabular and chart form that enables the reader to view industry trends.

2017 is shaping up to be a very busy year and the National Peach Council is working to be certain that the peach industry’s voice is heard.  Your engagement and support will assure that the National Peach Council has the resources and focus needed to do the very best we can to represent you wisely, strongly, and appropriately.
